Marilyn Monroe’s X-rays Up For Sale

Fans of entertainment icon Marilyn Monroe will have the change to go under her skin as her x-rays and other personal items are set to be auctioned in the US this June.

The x-ray image that is up for grabs was made in November 1954 at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital located in Florida.

The actress went through surgical procedures to treat an ailment called endometriosis, a condition of the womb that causes severe physical pain. Two days after the said x-ray was taken, a video recording showed Monroe leaving the hospital looking untidy.

At the time, Monroe was still married to baseball superstar Joe Di Maggio, although they were already separated and were in the middle of divorce proceedings.

The x-ray bears her married name Marilyn Di Maggio.

Later on, a young doctor obtained the x-ray image from the hospital to use it in his lectures at the center’s medical school. He showed it to his students and later passed it to his daughter who put it up for sale.

The expected sale price of the x-ray is approximately $1,200.

Other items being sold include a pair of vintage wooden skis that have the initials MM, a green velvet upholstered chair the actress used for her last photoshoot for Life Magazine and an unopened bottle of Monroe’s Chanel No. 5 perfume that is still in its original plastic wrapper and box.
