Facebook Fixes Security Flaw
For a temporary period, Facebook had removed its site’s chat facility in order to fix the security flaw that enables the site’s users to have access to other user’s live chats and pending friend requests. Several exploiters have used the site’s privacy features in order to expose the users’ personal information.
This security flaw, which was initially noticed by TechCrunch, grants anyone an access to some details of a person’s profile through an option in the privacy setting. According to one of the network’s representative, a bug allowed a few users’ pending friend request and chat messages to be seen by other Facebook users by simply fiddling with Facebook’s “preview my profile” feature.
According to the site’s representative, right after the Facebook team began receiving reports regarding the problem several engineers were called to fix the security problem. In addition, the site’s engineers have also diagnosed the problem regarding the visibility of the users’ pending friend requests.
For having taken a quick response to this security issue, Facebook was commended by a Symantec security expert, Candid Wueest. According to Wueest, any organization, whether it is a social networking site or not, is normally plagued by occasional privacy breaches. For Facebook to act expediently on the recent security flaw is something that should be lauded by industries and the common person alike.
