11 Indispensable Relationships by Leonard Sweet

Author, preacher, scholar, and Professor of Evangelism, Leonard Sweet, has recently come up with an excellent Christian book that deals with relationships. Published by David C. Cook Distribution, 11 Indispensable Relationships tells readers about the importance of developing spiritual partnerships with fellow Christians and uses 11 classic Biblical figures for reference.

Voted twice as one of America’s 50 Most Influential Christian Leaders, Sweet writes mostly about semiotics, including construction and understanding of meaning. His new book gives a detailed description of what qualities a person needs in order to make it into God’s “Dream Team.” He uses the 11 Biblical characters in a metaphorical way in trying to make every person believe the need to have life companions who represent these Biblical figures.

11 Indispensable Relationships may seem philosophical at first glance, but as one reads on, it actually references real life situations or implications, like George Clooney’s need for a team, or companions, in the movie Ocean’s 11, in trying to explain the concept of life companionship. The basic premise of the book is Sweet’s principle that “you need others to get to where you’re going.”

To make the concept/principle easier to understand, Sweet explains by chapter why the 11 Biblical characters he chose make worthy life companions. At the end of each chapter, there is a question and answer segment that allows readers to match a name or face with a Biblical figure.

Readers say that the book succeeds at reminding them of the importance of relationships in a world that favors accomplishments more than accompaniment. It is more than just a self-help book; it has helped readers re-direct their attention towards more meaningful relationships.

After reading the book, you’ll learn to appreciate your friends and family more than ever!
